Poverty

Poverty cannot be avoided in the World. There is a balance between developing countries and developed countries. The World only has so many non-renewable resources. If developing countries because developed countries and poverty no longer existed, the world could never sustain that many people equally. Too many developed countries use up fossil fuels and other non-renewable resources. If a developing country became developed, it would have the same rate of use for non-renewable resources, and then there wouldn't be any left. Poverty is a horrible thing, and many countries can be helped. But, there will always be poverty in the World. This is a sad thing, but I do not see it possible for all countries to become developed. The birth rate is too rapid in developing countries and disease is too rampant.

TNC

I think that TNC's are good because they provide the World with communication which is important to maintain a global economy. I can also see how TNC's can be viewed as bad. They put a strain on our natural resources by killing many forests, and they create a lot of disease and pollution. Even though these things are true I still think that TNC's are good. Very few things in life provide something so imperative and important but have no environmental impact. One must weigh the effects to determine whether something is more hazardous than beneficial. But, in this case, I think that TNC's remain beneficial in creating global communication. Even though it may give us some things that are not important for our everyday life, it does provide us with safety, communication, and the things that we use in our daily lives. Some others may not depend so much on these things, but Americans do and there does not seem to be anything that provides with similar results that have any less of an environmental impact. So I believe that it is good even though I do think it is bad that it is harming the environment and creating other problems.

The Middle East Crisis

I agree with many of the other class members. I do not think there is any immedaite sloution to the conflict in the Middle East. The conflict is deeper than land disagreements but is also about relgion. I do not know a solution to the Middle East conflict but i know that there is nothing the UNited States can do. The conflict is the Middle East efects the entire World. Most of the World's surivial depends on what goes on in the Middle East. The Middle East's oil supplies the entire World. If the United States was unable to purchase oil from the Middle East, our own oil supply would only last us about six months, maybe even less time because our rate of consumption is growing rapidly. So the UNited States, or anything other country for that matter, cannot risk their oil supply by trying to help with the Middle East conflict. I also do not think taht the Middle East is stable enough to fight and without their economy depleting. There is no answer to the Middle East conflict.

Conflict between the Arabs and the Jews

The existence of animosity between the Jews and the Arabs is directly related to their differences in religion. Prior to WWII the land in the Middle East was inhabited mostly by Arabs. However, because of WWII many Jews were given large amounts of land that the Arabs believed belonged to them. Because of the persecution of the Jewish people in Germany, they needed land to call their own. Even though the Arabs had their own states; they did not want the Jews holding any of the land they believed was theirs. It was essentially and disagreement over land, when Britain split the land between the Arabs and the Jews, the Arabs felt that the land given to the Jews was not rightfully theirs. Palestine was given to the Jews which upset the Arabs because Palestine has so much religious importance to all religions. The Arabs did not think that the Jews deserved Palestine, much less any land at all. The conflict between the Arabs and the Jews was caused by the Arabs inability to accept that the Jews deserved their own land.

America as an Empire

I think that America is an empire. Without even researching what it really means to be an empire, I would say that power is the most important part of being and empire, and the U.S. has power. In the past the U.s. has always been after more power and taking risks to see that they succeed. Even today, we are using our power over in the Middle East. We are constantly trying to spread our influence all over the world. Even though empire is not a word commonly used today, i believe that America is an Empire, along with most countries in the United States because power is something a country must maintain to remain safe and on top. Empire is often percieved as a negative and vicious word, but I believe that it is important for America to remain and Empire because with that power, we can have a positive influence on the rest ofd the world.

The reason for the rise of the Nazi Party in Germany was due to the economic unrest that existed in Germany following the war. The German people felt extrememly betrayed and bitter because of outcome of the war. Many citizens were unemployed and were unable to feed their families. Because of this they turned to the Nazi Party which promised them jobs and promised the people that they would be able to provide for their families. The Nazi Party gave the German people someone to blame for their current sitiuation, at that time is was the German government. All of the people voted out their government, and the Nazi Party became the most powerful political party in Germany. The people hoped for a better and more prosperpus future.

Women's Reproductive Rights

I think that it is impossible for the government to control the reproductive rights of women today. With women like Condalisa Rice and others who are in high political poistions, it seems unlikely that such laws could be passed. It also seems impossible that you could control the reproduction of every woman in the United States, it just doesnt seems possible. I also think that today, people realize how wrong it is to stereotype and segreagate. We understand that the survival of our nation depends of the reproduction from woman and for there survival of the fittest, gentic diversity is required. Im surprised that laws concerning eugenics were passed in the early 1900's so I really find it unlikely that anything of that nature could be passed today. It would be sad if something like that was passed today becuase i think today we can see the results of such horrible governing that eventually led to scientif mangement and the alteration and experimentation of genes.

Mussolini's Mass Movement

Benito Mussolini was an extremely powerful man. Mussolini had fascist organized gangs throughout Italy, they were called "black shirted thugs". The fascists eventually because so powerful that the government recognized them as an arm of the state. When he called for a "March on Rome" in October of 1922, King Emmanuel III asked him to form a cabinet and fascism began to rule Italy. In 1936, Mussolini and Hitler signed a secret protocol to maintain coordination between the two countries to spread fascism even more rapidly. Fascism became so widespread and so powerful that on July 24, 1939, the Fascist leaders voted to depose Mussolini. But the real end to fascism did not come until April 1945 when Benito Mussolini was executed.
